food as healing energy
harmonise your diet using the universal principle of yin and yang
graham horwood
We all know that one of the main ways to maintain or regain health is to eat a balanced diet - but which one? Clinicians and the media churn out dietary advice and peddle regimes, but they are always changing and often contradict each other.
There is, however, a time-honoured way to balance the intake of food and drink. It is one that transcends differences and prejudices by balancing the expansive and contractive aspects of universal energy, known in the East as yin and yang. You can add meaning to your life and increase your sense of well-being by using the timeless wisdom of the Taoist Masters who discovered how to harmonise the inner and outer life forces, or ch'i. This included balancing the yin and yang properties of food. Although this little known secret is over 5000 years old, the same principles are as true now as before.
Our stressed society and travel between countries, or even continents, have caused us to discard many traditional diets, which were built up by trial and error over the centuries. The simple, yet effective method, of applying ancient Taoist knowledge of universal law, does not entail eating bland or complicated foods, but enjoying the fruits of the earth, available locally. Thus food becomes a pleasure as well as a tool for health.
On this workshop nutrition and health expert Graham Horwood will outline a method that balances food by taking into account the season, climate and type of person. For example, a temperate climate, like the UK, demands yang foods such as grains and vegetables for warmth, whereas a yang hot climate requires more yin foodstuffs such as fruit and spices to keep cooler.
By adopting these simple principles, you will learn how to make all the difference to your health and well-being by balancing this energy effortlessly, from everyday food. This tried and tested knowledge will also provide more freedom to develop your life potential and spiritual outlook.
